Toilet brush is a tool for cleaning toilet. The modern plastic version was invented by William C. Schopp of Huntington Park, California in 1932, and later patented by the Addis brush company in 1933.

Generally, toilet brushes are used with toilet cleaner or bleach. The toilet brush can be used to clean the upper area around the toilet. However, it cannot be used to clean the U-bend of the toilet or the seat ring.

In many cultures, it's impolite to remove biological debris without using chemical toilet cleaning products because it leaves residues on the bristles. Others, by contrast, think it's impolite not to use a toilet brush immediately to remove biological debris.

A typical toilet brush consists of a bristle end, usually with a round shape and a long handle. Nowadays, toilet brushes are usually made of plastic, but they were originally made of wood with bristles, or from the hair of horses, cows, squirrels and badge. Brushes are usually stored in brackets, but in some cases are completely hidden in tubes.

Electric toilet brush is slightly different from ordinary toilet brush. The bristles are fixed on the rotor of the motor, and the working principle of the motor is similar to that of the electric toothbrush. The power supply is connected by electromagnetic induction without any metal contact.

In recent years, the overall design has changed, with the new focus on the ergonomic design of the brush. Further design improvements include innovative fixators that close quickly around the end of the bristles to prevent the release of odors, bacteria and other discomfort.

The further development of traditional toilet brush focuses on the risk of bacterial growth in the brush holder. The toilet brush has been patented by introducing an antibacterial solution that can be dipped and disinfected after each use.

The first successful artificial Christmas tree was made by Addis with bristles, using the same machine that makes toilet brushes. These trees are made of the same animal bristles as brushes, except that they are dyed green.
