FIFA is a non-profit organization. It claims to be the governing body of FIFA, five person football, beach football and football. It is the highest governing body of football.
FIFA was established in 1904 to monitor international competition among national associations in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Headquartered in Zurich, its membership now includes 211 national associations. Member States must also be members of one of the six regional alliances divided into the world: Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, Oceania and South America.
Today, FIFA outlines many of the goals in its organizational structure, including developing football internationally, working to ensure that it is accessible to all, and advocating integrity and fair competition. FIFA is responsible for organizing and promoting major international football matches, especially the world cup in 1930 and the women's World Cup in 1991. Although FIFA not only formulates football rules, it is the responsibility of FIFA to apply and enforce the rules in all FIFA matches. All FIFA tournaments generate revenue through sponsorship; in 2018, FIFA's revenue exceeded $4.6 billion, with net revenue of $1.2 billion and cash reserves of more than $2.7 billion at the end of the 2015-2018 cycle.
The investigative reporter's report links FIFA's leadership to the election of FIFA president Sepp Blatter and corruption, bribery and electoral manipulation related to the organization's decision to award the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar, respectively. The charges led the U.S. Department of justice to prosecute nine senior FIFA officials and five company executives, including extortion, wire transfer fraud and money laundering. On 27 May 2015, several of the officials were arrested by Swiss authorities, who also conducted a criminal investigation into how the organization awarded the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. It is expected that those officials who have also been prosecuted in the United States will also be extradited to the United States. The FIFA ethics committee, including Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, suspended many officials. In early 2017, reports that Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, tried to prevent cornel borb é ly and Hans Joachim Eckert, chairmen of the ethics committee, from being re elected at FIFA's general assembly in May 2017 were made public. On May 9, 2017, the FIFA board of directors decided not to extend the terms of boberry and Eckert, following the proposal of infinino. Eleven of the 13 members of the committee were removed along with the chairman.
