Founded by Ron Dennis shortly after the acquisition of McLaren formula one in 1981, it was originally named tag McLaren group due to its partnership with Mansour ojjeh's tag group. It was renamed McLaren group in 2003 and McLaren Technology Group in 2015. The group was originally formed by formula one team founded by new Zealander Bruce McLaren in 1963, and now focuses on McLaren F1 team, which is the second most profitable company of the team.
The company hopes to expand its market from Formula One racing to making cars by launching McLaren F1. In recent years, the group has expanded to other precision manufacturing areas, such as electric equipment in the solar and wind industries. Over the past three years, McLaren applied technologies, a technology subsidiary of McLaren group, has worked closely with GlaxoSmithKline. They also jointly plan to open a new building called McLaren GSK application technology center in McLaren technology center.
In December 2014, after the deterioration of shareholder relations, Ron Dennis, the founder, CEO, chairman, director and McLaren shareholder, tried to learn from Hamad bin isa Al Khalifa and Mansour Ojjeh) acquired 50% of McLaren technology group, but the investment transaction arranged by Dennis failed to achieve the same equity structure. Dennis attempted to acquire the company again in October 2016, with an estimated offer of £ 1.7 billion, but ojjeh and Mumtalakat wanted Dennis to withdraw and rejected his offer, so they took him on leave. Dennis left the company after his contract expired in January 2017.
In June 2017, Dennis announced that in addition to Dennis's shares in McLaren motor company, it also sold 25% of its shares in McLaren technology group to other shareholders. The group then merged with McLaren motors to form a new company created under the name of the previous McLaren group.
