William Jefferson Clinton (born on August 19, 1946, William Jefferson Blythe III) is an American statesman who served as the 42nd president of the United States from 1993 to 2001. Before he became president, he was the 40th governor of Arkansas, the 42nd governor of the state from 1979 to 1981 and from 1983 to 1992. Prior to that, he served as Attorney General of Arkansas from 1977 to 1979. Clinton is a member of the Democratic Party and a New Democrat in ideology. Many of his policies reflect the political philosophy of the "third way" of the middle party.
Born and raised in Arkansas, Clinton is an alumnus of Georgetown University, where he was a member of the kappa kappa psi and Phi Beta Kappa associations; he received a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford University. Clinton married Hillary Rodham Clinton, who served as secretary of state from 2009 to 2013, Senator from New York from 2001 to 2009, and presidential candidate of the Democratic Party in 2016. From Yale Law School, where they met and started dating. As governor of Arkansas, Clinton comprehensively reformed the state's education system and served as the president of the National Governors Association.
Clinton was elected president in 1992, beating current Republican opponent bush. At 46, he became the third president (after Theodore Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy) and the first baby boomer president. Clinton presided over the longest peacetime economic expansion period in American history and signed the North American Free Trade Agreement. After failing to pass national health care reform, the Democratic Party was ousted in 1994 after Republicans won control of Congress for the first time in 40 years. Two years later, in 1996, Clinton became the first Democrat since Franklin Roosevelt was re elected. Clinton passed welfare reform and State Children's health insurance programs, as well as measures to deregulate the financial system, including the gramm rich Billy act and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000.

In terms of foreign policy, Clinton ordered the United States to conduct military intervention in the war in Bosnia and Kosovo, signed the Iraqi liberation act against Saddam Hussein, and attended the Camp David summit in 2000 to promote the Israeli Palestinian peace process.
Since the Second World War, Clinton left the office with the highest office approval rate of the president of the United States. Since then, Clinton has been involved in public speaking and humanitarian work. He founded the William J. Clinton Foundation to address international causes, such as AIDS prevention and global warming. In 2004, Clinton published her autobiography my life. He has been active in politics by running for Democratic candidates, including his wife's 2008 and 2016 Democratic presidential nominations, and Barack Obama's 2008 and 2012 presidential elections.
In 2009, Clinton was appointed UN special envoy to Haiti. After the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Clinton and George W. Bush formed the Clinton Bush Haiti foundation. Since leaving office, Clinton has received high marks in the US president's opinion polls.
