Fanta is a fruit flavored carbonated beverage brand launched by Coca Cola worldwide. There are more than 100 flavors around the world. Fanda originated from the US trade embargo on Coca Cola substitutes in Nazi Germany, which affected the supply of Coca Cola ingredients in 1940.
During the Second World War, a trade embargo was established against Nazi Germany, which made it difficult to import Coca Cola syrup. To avoid this, Max Keith, head of Coca Cola GmbH, decided to develop a new product for the German market, using only the ingredients available in Germany at that time, including beet sugar, whey and apple. Slag - "leftovers," as Keith later recalled. The name was the result of a brainstorming session. First, Keith urged his team to "use their imagination" (in German, Fantasie), while Joe knipp, one of his salesmen, retorted, "Fanta!".
During the war, the factory was cut off from Coca Cola's headquarters. After the war, Coca Cola regained control over the factories, formulas and trademarks of new products of Fanta, as well as the factory profits during the war.
In 1943 alone, three million cases of finda were sold. Many bottles were not drunk, but were used to sweeten and flavor soups and stews because of the strict sugar content of the war.
During the war, the N.V. Nederlandsche Coca Cola factory in Amsterdam suffered the same difficulties as the German Coca Cola factory. Max Keith has put the Fanta brand at the disposal of the Coca Cola plant in the Netherlands, where he has been appointed official custodian. The formula of Fenda in Holland is different from that of Fenda in Germany. Elderberry is one of the main ingredients.
When Coca Cola branches in Germany and the Netherlands re merged with their parent companies, Fanta production was interrupted. After Pepsi launched several drinks in the 1950s, Coca Cola relaunched Fanta in 1955. The beverage is widely sold in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.
Today's Fenda oranges were first produced in Naples, Italy, in 1955, when a local bottling plant started using locally sourced oranges.
