A computer monitor or computer display is an electronic visual display used for a computer. Monitors usually include display devices, circuits, enclosures, and power supplies. The display equipment in modern monitors is usually thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) or flat LED display, while the earlier monitors used cathode ray tube (CRT). It can be connected to the computer through VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, thunderbolt, LVDS (low voltage differential signal) or other proprietary connectors and signals.

Initially, computer monitors were used for data processing, while television receivers were used for entertainment. Since the 1980s, computers (and their monitors) have been used for data processing and entertainment, while television has implemented certain computer functions. The common aspect ratio for TV and computer monitors has been changed from 4:3 to 16:10 and then to 16:9.
