Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (usually referred to as Nissan) is a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer, headquartered in Yokohama West. The company sells Nissan, Infiniti and Datsun branded cars with internal performance conditioning products labeled NISMO.

The company's name goes back to Nissan's zaibatsu, now known as the Nissan group.

Nissan has been part of the Renault Nissan Alliance, a partnership between Nissan and French carmaker Renault, since 1999. As of 2013, Renault held 43.4% of Nissan's voting rights, while Nissan held 15% of Renault's non voting rights. From 2009 to 2017, Carlos Ghosn served as CEO of both companies. In February 2017, Ghosn announced that he would resign as CEO of Nissan on April 1, 2017, and continue to serve as chairman of the company

In 2013, Nissan was the sixth largest automaker in the world, after Toyota, general motors, Volkswagen, Hyundai and Ford. [8] In general, the Renault Nissan alliance will become the fourth largest automaker in the world, while Nissan is the leading Japanese brand in China, Russia and Mexico.

Nissan is the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, with global sales of more than 275000 vehicles as of mid December 2016. The best-selling cars in the car manufacturer's lineup are Nissan LEAF, all electric vehicles and the world's best-selling road plug-in electric vehicles in history; as of September 2016, more than 240000 have been sold worldwide.
