Dodge is a U.S. car brand produced by FCA US LLC (formerly Chrysler Group Limited) in Auburn mountain, Michigan. Dodge currently includes low-cost variants of the Chrysler badge and performance car, although dodge has been Chrysler's mid price brand above Plymouth for most of its existence.
Dodge was founded by Horace Elgin dodge and John Francis Dodge Brothers in the early 1900s. At that time, it was the mechanical workshop of Dodge Brothers Company. It was originally a company that provided parts and components for Detroit's automobile manufacturers. In 1914, Dodge Brothers began to manufacture "Dodge Brothers" brand complete vehicles. , earlier than Chrysler. The plant, located in hamtrak, Michigan, has been known as the Dodge main plant since 1910 until it was closed in January 1980. Both Dodge Brothers died in 1920 and were sold by their families to Dillon, read & Co. in 1925. It was later sold to Chrysler in 1928. Dodge cars were mainly made up of trucks and buses until the 1970s, although it produced memorable compact cars (such as 1963 – 76 DART) and medium-sized cars (such as "B-body" and "crown and charger of 1962-79).
The 1973 oil crisis and its subsequent impact on the U.S. automobile industry led Chrysler to develop the K platform for compact to medium-sized vehicles in 1981 model year. The K platform and its derivatives have been hailed for reviving Chrysler's business in the 1980s; one such derivative became the Dodge caravan.
The Dodge brand has undergone a number of Chrysler ownership changes from 1998 to 2009, including a brief merger with Daimler Benz AG from 1998 to 2007, which was then sold to Cerberus capital management, the US government's 2009 bail-out and subsequent chapter 11 bankruptcy and Fiat acquisition.
In 2011, Dodge, ram and Dodge's vipers were separated. Dodge said that dodge VI snake will be SRT product and RAM will be manufacturer. In 2014, SRT was merged back to dodge. Later that year, Chrysler Group changed its name to FCA US LLC, corresponding to the merger of Fiat S.p.A. and Chrysler Group, becoming the single corporate structure of Fiat Chrysler automobile company.
