Daewoo automobile company is a Korean automobile company, founded in 1983, under Daewoo Group. After falling into financial difficulties, the company sold most of its assets to GM in 2001, became a subsidiary of the US company, and was replaced by GM Korea in 2011.
The company was initially founded in 1937 in Fuping District of Incheon, Japan, then known as national motor. In November 1962, the name was changed to saenaramotor. Saenara assembles and sells Datsun Bluebird pl310. Saenara is the first automobile company in South Korea, equipped with modern assembly equipment, and was founded after the Korean government announced the "automobile industry promotion policy" in 1962. [2] Saenara motor was acquired by shinjin industrial in 1965. After establishing a partnership with Toyota, senara motor was renamed shinjin motors.
After Toyota exited in 1972, new entrants and General Motors formed a joint venture in the name of GM Korea, but changed its name to Saehan motor again in 1976. Not long ago, General Motors Korea sold its rekord to General Motors Korea along with its Chevrolet 1700 based on Holden Torana.
After Daewoo Group gained control in December 1982, it formally changed its name to Daewoo Motor Company from January 1983. Until 1996, all cars were based on GM models. All Saehan models were named daewoos, and the updated maepsy became maepsy Na. Retain the Royale range, Daewoo added Royale XQ and Royale Duke (March 1982), Royale Prince (July 1983) and Royale salon super (March 1986). Beyond the Royal series, the flagship luxury car of Daewoo empire was added in 1989, with the modeling reminiscent of the contemporary Chrysler Empire and new Yorker, as well as the Japanese luxury car. It was produced until 1993.
Daewoo's first products were based on Opel kadett e's 1986 Daewoo LeMans. The three versions are called racer and the five are called penta-5. The car has international ambitions for GM because it is sold globally, such as Pontiac Le Mans, as? Na GT and se or passport optima. This car has been produced until February 1997, which is one of the greatest achievements of Daewoo automobile company. In 1986, Daewoo also provided the Nissan vanette with a badge design.
In 1987, they created the ESPERO designed by Bertone and the model created by Italian designers in Daewoo Motor Company. DHI launched the Tico minicar in 1991, which is sold at Daewoo dealers. Since 1981, DHI has also been selling Damas minivans and labo minivans, all based on Suzuki models. When the Royale series was discontinued, its models were updated to Prince and super salon or Brougham until 1997 and 1999, respectively.
In 1992, the joint venture with GM was terminated and Daewoo became an independent company.
In 1994, Daewoo began to import the second-generation honda legend in the name of Arcadia to replace the discontinued flagship imperial. This year, the Le Mans car also had some updates, and then all variants (three, four and five) were sold under the Cielo model name.
Lanos, the first real Daewoo car product, was launched in late 1996. It produced three variants: four doors, three doors (called Romeo) and five doors (Juliet), the first car to be created by the entire family. The modeling is in the charge of Italdesign company of giorgetto Giugiaro. One of its main features is the new three part corporate grill, reminiscent of Daewoo's logo, which will be used in many subsequent Daewoo cars. In February 1997, nubira was launched, which was the first Daewoo model produced in the new Kunshan automobile factory at that time. It was designed by the i.de.a. Institute in Italy. In March 1997, the medium Leganza, also designed by giorgetto Giugiaro, drew on some styling tips from the existing 1990 Jaguar Kensington concept car.
In 1998, it launched Matiz, one of Daewoo's most famous cars. The design was again signed by giorgetto Giugiaro and was based on his 1992 "lucciola" concept car, which was initially considered a replacement for Fiat Cinquecento. In the next four years, this car became the best-selling product of Daewoo. [need to quote] in 1999, Daewoo launched Magnus, which is the development of the existing Leganza. It was sold with Leganza in South Korea until the end of production in 2002. It has two variants: classic and sports eagle. Rezzo minivans were also launched in early 2000. Matiz, lanos and nubira had a medium-sized facelift in 2001. In 2002, Magnus L6 was launched, equipped with Daewoo's first in-line six cylinder engine, and equipped with a new front grille and headlamp. In the same year, Daewoo also launched a Kalos super small watch that can replace lanos.
Prior to GM's acquisition, Daewoo was listed in different countries.
In Europe, Daewoo Motor Company began to sell ESPERO and Cielo (or nexia) in early 1995, and achieved reasonable sales success, especially among the buyers in the UK, Daewoo Motor Company has been popular for its competitive price and revolutionary distribution network to a large extent. Sell products at a fixed price and provide revolutionary after-sales service, including three years of free maintenance. In 1996, it accounted for 1% of the UK's new car market, with sales of about 20000.
The Daewoo Series in Europe was updated in 1997, with the launch of lanos, nubira and Leganza starting in 1997. The launch of the Matiz city car in 1998 was a great success for the company, especially in non Asian countries (for example, Italy, which won many awards such as the car of the year award for three consecutive years in 1998, 1999 and 2000).
Then came the rezzo (or tacuma), evanda (Magnus), and Kalos models, previously based on the Ssangyong SUV: korando, Musso, and Rexton. After the General Motors buyout, Daewoo was given a new badge and sold under Daewoo's name until 2003. Lacetti is the last car in Europe with a Daewoo badge. Other Daewoo models were later renamed Chevy.
Daewoo cars were sold in the United States and Canada, Australia and many other countries between 1997 and 2002, until Daewoo went bankrupt. Lanos has been replaced by Chevrolet's Aveo since Daewoo exited many markets, while nubira and Leganza have been replaced by Chevrolet or Suzuki brands.
In January 2005, the Chevrolet brand was launched in Europe, and the whole Daewoo Series was simply renamed as Chevrolet. GM's official slogan is:
"Daewoo has grown into a Chevy."
Others think the new name is an opportunity for Daewoo to become stronger. After Daewoo's bankruptcy, the informal former chairman Kim Woo Choong escaped, the most famous is the French "Daewoo agent" (Daewoo Orion electronics plant closed and fire in longway, France), [9] Daewoo brand name is very bad image, so GM decided to extend the Chevrolet strategy, which has been used in most other markets (Canada, India, Israel, Russia) since 2003 to create a A real global brand, with "Chevrolet" instead of Daewoo "double kidney" bow tie.
Winstorm and Tosca are Chevrolet CAPTIVA and Chevrolet landscape respectively. After the decision to rebrand, some of the previous Daewoo models changed their names. For example, in some markets, it became Matiz of Chevrolet spark (although it also used Chevrolet Matiz), or later it became Kalos of Aveo (coexisting with other countries' Chevrolet Kalos). Later, this trend tended to be unified across Chevrolet Europe: spark and Cruze used the same model name in all European markets.
However, in addition to South Korea, Daewoo brand still exists in some overseas markets in the years after it was replaced by Chevrolet, especially in countries where Daewoo's former factories are not part of GM's takeover plan. Markets that continue to be used for older Daewoo models include Romania (Daewoo, Romania, until 2008), Ukraine (zaz, authorized production, Daewoo brand until 2012), Egypt (Egypt Daewoo until 2012), and, as an exception, Vietnam (vidamco, a wholly-owned subsidiary of GM Daewoo, manufactures models under Daewoo brand until 2011, when it was discontinued in Korea) 。 In addition, the brand remained in Uzbekistan (as UZ Daewoo auto) until 2015, while in Poland, Daewoo (as FSO brand) continued to produce until 2008.
